【摘要】:Immersioninwatercancausethedegradationofcoatings.Knowledgeonhowacoatingresistswaterimmersionishelpfulinpredictingitsservicelife.Failureinawaterimmersiontestmaybecausedbyanumberoffactorsincludingadeficiencyinthecoatingitself,contaminationofthesubstrate,orinadequatesurfacepreparation.Thetestisthereforeusefulforevaluatingcoatingsaloneorcompletecoatingsystems.Waterimmersiontestsareusedforresearchanddevelopmentofcoatingsandsubstratetreatments,specificationacceptance,andqualitycontrolinmanufacturing.Theseteststypicallyresultinapassorfaildetermination,butthedegreeoffailuremayalsobemeasured.Acoatingsystemisconsideredtopassifthereisnoevidenceofwater-relatedfailureafteraspecifiedperiodoftime.Resultsobtainedfromwaterimmersiontestsinaccordancewiththispracticeshouldnotberepresentedasbeingequivalenttoaperiodofexposuretowaterinthenaturalenvironment,untilthedegreeofquantitativecorrelationhasbeenestablishedforthecoatingorcoatingsystem.Corrosiontestsofascribedcoatingonaferroussubstrateareimpracticalinwaterimmersiontestsasthecorrosionproductstendtocontaminatethewaterbath.Continuousoverflowofthetesttankissometimesrequiredtomaintainconsistentwaterquality.Theapparatusforthetestisrelativelyinexpensiveandcanbeassimpleasaglassbeakerwithastirrer.Itisalsopossibletouseverylargetanksfortestingcoatedpipeorotherlargecoatedproducts.1.1Thispracticecoversthebasicprinciplesandoperatingproceduresfortestingwaterresistanceofcoatingsbythepartialorcompleteimmersionofcoatedspecimensindistilledorde-mineralizedwateratambientorelevatedtemperatures.Althoughtheapparatusandprocedurecouldbeemployedinimmersiontestsusingsolutionsofvariousmaterialsinwater,thispracticeislimitedtotestsinwateralone.1.2Thispracticeislimitedtothemethodsofobtaining,measuring,andcontrollingtheconditionsandproceduresofwaterimmersiontests.Itdoesnotspecifyspecimenpreparation,specifictestconditions,orevaluationofresults.Note18212;AlternativepracticesfortestingthewaterresistanceofcoatingsincludePracticesD1735,D2247,andD4585.1.3ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
